Maybe someone told us they would never let us fail. Maybe we didn’t have a parent figure who could help us take risks. There is a lot of pain, disappointment, and loss in our childhood years that we don’t even realize we had until we reach adulthood. What happened? These things happen because some people were born on earth as bad eggs. They may have been raised in an environment where everything was always difficult and it just seemed like the easiest way out. Unfortunately, this is often the case and this is our experience. No matter what, when these experiences go against our nature, they damage our emotional and mental health. As children, we learn how to cope.The second stage of learning to stop allowing pain to define us is to understand that our parents, teachers, and other adults may not have been able to teach us every single thing that we needed to know growing up. While we should be grateful for having the parents of today, our parents were not there all of the time. Sometimes it’s not even their fault that we get turned away from them. Or they just don’t listen. One day something happens that makes everything else seem impossible. But that one event doesn’t make that one problem but instead leads us to believe that every problem has a solution. However, nothing about our world makes sense when it comes to why our parents or teacher aren’t there for us and where we might be going wrong. Nothing makes sense if the only reason our parents or educator are absent is that we are good to ourselves. If we think this way, then surely we can just turn inward and give “them” a chance to get in touch. But most of us don’t like to admit that we need encouragement and guidance. So, we try to look away because we want everyone to look at everyone else. Instead, how do you change your mindset to looking inward? Let’s find out!It might sound silly, but many of us tend to stay stuck in situations that we think are limiting. In many cases, we end up living with a lack of passion. This can lead to anger and frustration. When we lose passion, we find that our energy moves elsewhere so quickly. It can leave us wanting to get rid of, delete, or move on to something better. That’s why we want to change our mindset from being limited to the fact that everyone around us has more opportunities, resources, and knowledge that we can use. Many people fall into the trap of thinking that they have to be able to accomplish their goals, be successful, and live the life people already have. Instead, let’s focus on discovering what life is like without the baggage of not having enough before. By removing all those obstacles and seeing the world differently we will discover that we have a different perspective on everything. We will no longer look for things to hold us down and we will see opportunity everywhere. Now that we know what we want to become, let’s take a look at how to change our mindset.1. Get comfortable with yourself.The first step to changing your mindset is to accept that you deserve it. You only get to live once and to truly get what you want, you must embrace who you are. Only then, you will become an authentic version of yourself. The same goes for any other aspect of your life. For example, you might work hard to build a career that pays well, but if you spend hours working on projects that don’t bring the joy you will eventually burn out and stop caring. After realizing it’s okay that you have the struggles that come along with finding happiness in your life, you no longer need to look at what others have to gain from them.2. Learn how to say NO.If you’re feeling trapped by your mind and body, it’s okay to take a few moments to process that you are unproductive. Think back to your youth when you had a great time with friends and a laugh at the movie theater. Once again, the same situation may apply here. You don’t want to miss out on a social event or an upcoming wedding. Do you want to keep meeting new people, staying active, and spending time with family and friends? Here’s the part where you should allow yourself to say “no”. Who do you trust to tell them no? Perhaps they didn’t have all the skills and knowledge necessary to help you achieve success. Yet here we are, still trying to convince ourselves that they know the secret to my success and it’s because I’m lucky to have them. Because of this, you continue to feel pressured to meet whatever needs are necessary, whether they are financial or spiritual. But you know that you can rely on yourself. The good news about saying NO is that you will have the freedom to act on that truth. It’s time to open your eyes and finally stop looking at yourself through someone else’s eyes. Start making decisions that align with your values and interests, not someone else’s. Stop seeking validation from anyone else. Take ownership of your actions and decisions.3. Spend time alone.Most of us enjoy getting to know ourselves better through solitude. A little exercise in self-love isn’t too much trouble, but when we lack a connection to life outside of our relationships and friendships we feel isolated. Be sure to create space within your life for connection. Don’t wait until the perfect moment to open your arms and connect with the universe to receive love and support. Spend time alone and let yourself be vulnerable without hesitation. Even though we are all interconnected and connected we have to remember that all feelings are valid no matter what.4. Recognize who you are and you don’t need to depend on anyone to achieve success.We, humans, tend to look at things from everyone else’s eyes and we don’t realize that we might be setting ourselves up to fail. What if you stopped trying to please someone else when all you wanted to do was succeed? If you don’t know who you are, you are setting yourself up for failure. Nobody likes to feel left out and nobody likes losing out on something important to them. And guess what? Everyone else knows exactly who you are too! You don’t need permission to do what’s right for you and your career. Find a mentor who wants to help guide you on your path, and you will quickly start trusting them with your secrets and your successes. Keep your head high in the face of setbacks and challenges. Just because someone says you’re “not cut out for running things”, doesn’t mean your dreams are dead. Have faith, belief is key.5. Create boundaries.Whether it’s money or fame, it comes with responsibility. You can give attention to all five aspects of your life. You can give love to everyone. You can let everything negative out on the table. But then it doesn’t matter because the other person has already figured it out. You don’t want to lose out on anything. You want to win. When you set boundaries and choose to put limitations on your life you allow yourself to truly stand up for what you value most. Often we assume that people have no other choice but to follow the rules set forth. But who do you think is qualified to decide who succeeds or fails when it comes down to business and personal success? Where do you draw the line between what’s acceptable and what’s not?6. Choose to be happy.The greatest misconception people have when they get upset over not being happy is that they think that because they are unhappy, that means they are stupid. You know deep down that it’s not possible to be depressed all the time, so it’s likely not true. If you’re disappointed that something isn’t going your way, it’s a sign that you’ve made a mistake in your decision-making. If you’re not experiencing those emotions or thoughts, it’s probably because you let other people run your life. If you’re scared of not being liked because of your appearance, it’s probably because you let your fears run your life first. And it’s far easier to let you own your feelings and do what’s best for you rather than letting other parties run your life. If you need help, seek professional help, but know that you are the only one with that information. And if you want to be healthy, don’t settle for a lifestyle that leaves you dissatisfied. Focus on creating happiness and confidence in your life, then choosing to do things that make you happy. Make the effort to feel good about yourself and the quality of your own life and you will begin to notice that everything else falls into place as well.7. Follow your intuition.Your gut feelings are valid and telling someone or something isn’t right is always an opportunity. Look for signs that things aren’t right.
