A social network, in technology parlance, is a website or other application where people, often of similar interests, come together to communicate with each other and share information including photos, videos, audio and written messages. – Techtarget.com.
Facebook is one of the most popular social networks. And because it can be used to find individuals with similar interests, it is a terrific resource for promoting your web presence subject. We will learn some of the features of Facebook by focusing on Facebook Pages for this assignment.
Facebook Personal Profile
We will create a Facebook Page for your subject in this assignment. This is not a Facebook personal profile. However, you MUST have a personal profile for yourself in order to create a Facebook Page. Your personal profile is a REAL profile of you. The personal profile is where you tell people about yourself, add friends and post personal updates. NOTE: Individuals cannot see the personal profile of the Administrator (you) of your Facebook Page. And you can Unpublish (hide) your Facebook Page after grading and Publish it again when we use it in later assignments (reviewed in Settings). Then, you can Delete your Facebook Page after this class.
FB allows multiple Pages in one personal account, but FB does NOT allow multiple personal profiles. Again, to create your Facebook Page for your subject, you will use your existing FB personal profile OR create a FB personal profile, if you do not have one OR reinstate a previous FB personal profile, if you closed a prior FB personal account. If you have any issues with creating a personal profile, please search the issue or contact FB for assistance. This is mandatory for the class.
If you don’t have a personal profile, you will need to create one. DO NOT CREATE A SECOND PERSONAL PROFILE IN FACEBOOK FOR THIS CLASS. FB will deactivate the account if they suspect any duplication or lack of authenticity of an account. FB is not Instagram or Twitter where you can create several personal accounts. We don’t review the features of a Facebook personal profile in this assignment. However, be sure to add a phone number to the Personal account if you are creating one, so that your account can be verified or FB will question the profile. Please understand that FB is now much more strict with approving accounts than years ago. There are basic instructions in the assignment video for working with Settings of your personal profile, especially Privacy so you can control how your profile and posts are shared. And you can determine how much or how little you wish to enter in your personal profile in the ABOUT tab. Most features in your personal profile are self explanatory. You can use the Help feature in Facebook to learn more about working with your personal profile.
Facebook Page
A Facebook Page is your business’s digital presence on Facebook that allows you to interact with your customers, build your business and analyze how customers interact with your business.I will review the steps necessary for completing the assignment in my Facebook Page Assignment video (see below). However, there are additional resources that you may want to review. Once you create your Facebook Page, you may want to use the Stories feature in your page to post content about your subject. Similar to Instagram, the content appears for 24 hrs and was added to Facebook Pages so more original content would be posted to users’ pages. Review How to Create a Facebook Story on a Business Page for more tips on using stories in your FB page.
After you complete the assignment steps and PUBLISH YOUR FB PAGE, you will copy the URL for your Facebook Page from your browser when you are in Facebook and paste it into our assignment URL link (similar to the Adobe Spark assignments). Per the assignment video, PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO PUBLISH YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE BEFORE YOU SEND ME THE URL. Be sure to complete each of the following tasks for your assignment, even if it is skipped in the assignment instructions video. You can UNPUBLISH the page after I grade it. And, then just RE-PUBLISH when we need to access your FB page again in other assignments. Again, PLEASE KEEP ALL WORK UNTIL THE CLASS IS OVER.
NOTE: To create your Facebook Page, click on NINE DOTS upper right corner and click Create Page or, if you already have pages, SEE ALL PROFILES and SEE ALL PAGES. Also, we are NOT working with the Meta Business Suite features. If you have previously created a Meta Business page with your Facebook profile, the Settings will not look the same.
Requirements for your Facebook Page:
2 POINTS A Category relevant to your subject.
3 POINTS A short description in Description with key words. 3 POINTS In Edit Page Info or Settings – Page Info – Username create a Username. However, if you cannot create a Username, you can skip this step.
3 POINTS In Edit Page Info or Settings – Page Info – Contact Add an Email (this can be your personal, business or SMC email). You can update website and phone in Contact, if you wish. We will create a website in our Blogs assignment.
4 POINTS Add a Profile Pic and Cover Photo. These can be images, icons or logos used previously.
3 POINTS Create a custom button in the blue +Add a Button default right corner under the Cover Photo. 2 POINTS Follow your page by clicking the Follow button. UPDATE: Set Follow Settings to ‘Favorites’ or ‘Default’.
5 POINTS Create ONE post to your page. NOTE: if ‘Schedule Posts’ option appears, click Not Now
NO POINTS JUST AN IDEA: In Settings – General -Visitor Posts set it to Allow visitors to the page to publish posts and check Allow photo and video posts but do NOT check Review posts.
MUST PUBLISH PAGE TO SEE IT: When you are finished, go to Settings -General- Page Visibility and PUBLISH the page.
When you are in your FB Page (not your personal FB account), copy the URL directly from the browser . Check the URL in another tab to confirm it is correct. If you submit the wrong URL, you will receive a ZERO on the assignment. Return to our course in Canvas and click SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT in this assignment link. In the Website URL tab, paste your FB Page’s URL into the box next to Website URL:. Then click SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT.
