Do you want to increase your proficiency or not?

Your task is to take an inventory of all the digital communication technology you use in your personal and professional life and analyze three aspects of your interaction with this technology in a 7-8 page written paper. First, explain the usefulness of each technology and whether each one facilitates education, entertainment, or personal communication, such as staying in touch with family and friends or conducting personal business. Second, consider the amount of time you spend using these technologies. Third, consider the effects of each technology on your personal and professional life. Consider how much money you are spending on these technologies and if their use is making you more competent (a better professional) or more godly (a better person). Also, think about the technological displacement these technologies produce in your life. In your paper, try and take a neutral stance as much as you can in analyzing your own life and make recommendations for any changes you think you should make in response to your self-analysis. Think about where you fit with regard to the adoption, use and proficiency in digital technology. Do you want to increase your proficiency or not? How are you going about increasing your proficiency?
The paper should be referenced according to the APA style manual, 6 th edition.Although your paper is only 7-8 pages (not including the reference page), it should be written in an academic style. Thus it would help if you integrated your self-assessment with the academic literature. Collect and use your scholarly resources on new technology use. Here is an example. “I estimate that I send 100 texts daily on my iPhone, which is very close to the national average. A recent study of 450 college students in the U.S. by Fraser & Keeler (2011) indicates that they sent, on average, 92 text messages each day. In another recently published study of cell phone use, the authors concluded that “text messaging is the preferred mode of communication now among college students in the U.S.” (Mercer, Baker, & Scutero, 2012, p. 113). I cited two studies using APA style, which is required for all your papers. At the end of your short summary, you should provide a reference page (which does not count toward your 7-8 pages), providing references in alphabetical order for each source you cite. Paper Requirements 7-8 pages in length, 12-pt Times Roman font, double-spaced, standard margins (one inch) Reference page at the end of your paper APA style, sixth edition (you need to get this style manual if you don’t have one)
Digital communication technology I use
iPhone 14 pro max (Phone), Social Media (Tiktok, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram), Microsoft Teams, Outlook Email and Youtube for streaming.

Video Case Study
The Right to Be Forgotten https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD37vwUD8Us
Think & Discuss
In this video, Mike Rugnetta, the host of the PBS web series Idea Channel, undertakes an entertaining, yet also insightful examination of the Right to Be Forgotten. Rugnetta reviews the current state of affairs with respect to the still evolving Right to Be Forgotten as of the date of publication of the video (February 2015), He reviews the case filed by Mario Costeja Gonzalez, which led to establishment of the Right to Be Forgotten by the European Court of
Justice. He places the Right in the context of previous European law and history. He also discusses the current limitation of the Right to Be Forgotten to just Europe and the implications of adopting such a Right on a global basis. Rugnetta proposes that the Right to Be Forgotten can be re-conceptualized as the “right to be different from oneself” as suggested by Norberto Nuno Gomes de Andrade. He finishes with some speculation about why some people habitually post and then quickly delete those posts on social media, and notes the way developers have responded to this behaviour.
Video Case Questions:
1. What is the Right of Oblivion and how does it differ from the Right to Be Forgotten?
2. According to Dr. Victor Mayer-Schoenberger, how has past history in Europe impacted current European attitudes toward personal privacy?
3. What are the concerns about the potential adoption of the Right to Be Forgotten on a worldwide basis?
4. What are some of the apps that the video notes are premised on the notion of impermanence and anonymity?

The reason behind the attack was the pending release of the movie the interview, a comedy starring james franco and seth rogen which depicts the assassination of korean leader kim jong-un.

The Rise of Cyberwarfare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSWPoeBLFyQThink & Discuss
In recent years, cyberwar has left the realm of science fiction and has become the cold, hard reality of the modern age. Every statistic having to do with the increase in frequency and size of cyberattacks is on the rise. In 2015, hackers targeted eBay, Home Depot, JPMorgan Chase, Anthem Health, and even the White House, exposing personal information belonging to thousands of customers of these companies. But unlike past examples of warfare, the online battlefield doesn’t just belong to the strongest nations, although the U.S., China, and Russia are all actively engaged in both offensive and defensive cyberwar efforts. The battlefield of the Internet has reduced differences between the strongest and weakest nations to a significant degree, and even one of the poorest countries on earth, North Korea, was alleged to have executed a successful attack on Sony’s U.S. division, stealing, releasing, and destroying terabytes of private data. The reason behind the attack was the pending release of the movie The Interview, a comedy starring James Franco and Seth Rogen which depicts the assassination of Korean leader Kim Jong-un. An anonymous group calling themselves the “Guardians of Peace” orchestrated the attack, wreaking havoc on Sony’s entire organization and insisting that The Interview be cancelled. Sony eventually cancelled the New York City premiere of the film and other major theatre chains balked at screening the film. Although the film was eventually released across a very low number of theatres and featured major revisions to the plot, the attackers were largely successful in their goals. Between bot networks, DDoS attacks, Trojans, phishing, ransomware, data theft, identity theft, credit card fraud, and spyware, there’s no shortage of ways for cybercriminals to make an impact online. However, as cybersecurity expert Amy Zertag explains in this video, the difference between these types of attacks, which can be extremely annoying to the victims and have major implications for e-commerce, and the next wave of cyberattacks, which have the potential to damage or destroy important components of national infrastructure, is significant. Restoring a stolen identity is annoying, as anybody who’s had to do it understands. Cancelling or interfering with a movie release has dire implications for creative expression. But attacks to systems such as self-driving car guidance systems, airplanes, or municipal power and water supplies, all of which are increasingly becoming computerized and automated, could have much more serious consequences. The Stuxnet worm, which destroyed thousands of Iranian nuclear centrifuges in an effort by the U.S. and Israel to cripple Iran’s nuclear program, was an example of this type of attack in action. While it was successful in this regard, it was also a proof of concept of this type of attack, and similar attacks have been made against industrial control modules, computer systems, and networks. The world is moving towards the Internet of Things, where everyday objects such as TVs, thermostats, appliances, cars, and other equipment gain the ability to connect to the Internet and share information. The potential applications of these technologies to improve our lives are limitless, but the Internet of Things also creates a whole new area of attack for potential cybercriminals.
Video Case Questions:
1. What are the three classes of cyberattacks and their efects, according to Zertag?
2. What metaphor does Zertag use to describe the idea that online, there are “no safe neighbourhoods?” What does she mean?
3. What does Zertag mean when she says that the Internet has a “huge attack surface”? How will the “Internet of Things” exacerbate this issue?
4. What are the five differences between cyberwarfare and traditional warfare, according to Zertag?

The website for your business has now developed to the point where it has information about the business itself and some more detailed information about its products and/or services, as well as some data-validated forms for placing an order and for gathering feedback from your users. Now it’s time to improve the “look and feel” of your site by adding some additional “rotating” images and some dropdown menus. Once again, of course, this “parallels” the look and feel of our own Nature’s Source sample website. Find some more images relating to your business that you can legally copy and use on your website (at least six, let’s say) and replicate for your site the rotating image feature illustrated by our own example when you display the home page of either the nature1 website or the nature2 website of this chapter. Create a version of your website that “parallels” our nature1 example of this chapter. That is, your site must have only a home page, but it must also have the rotating images and dropdown menus analogous to what you see in Figure 7.1 of the text. Or, if you wish, give it a fancier dropdown menu. The one in the text can be regarded as a “minimal” dropdown menu whose functionality you should be able to replicate using the text code as a model and making appropriate changes for your particular situation. On the other hand, there are lots of dropdown menu options “out there” on the Internet, and you may find one more to your liking. If you do, and it’s not illegal to do so, go ahead and use it instead. The menu options and sub options will, of course, depend on the nature of your business, but most of them should be the same or similar to those in the text example. In this part of these exercises, none of the menu options on either the main menu bar or the dropdown submenus should be active. In other words, your resulting website should “parallel” our nature1 example, in which none of the links are active. Make a copy of your website from 2 above, and revise it so that all menu links become active and the same header with menu bar and associated dropdown menu options appear on all pages. The rotating images are to appear only on your home page, since you do not want to distract the user from the serious business of buying your products once that user has started to browse your site. The appearance of the business logo and menu bar on all pages helps to give your visitors a feeling of consistency in the “look and feel” of your site as they browse from page to page. In any case, your result this time should “parallel” our nature2 example, in which all of the links are active on all pages. A final (optional, unless your instructor requires it or some variation of it) exercise: In this version of your website, you may also wish to implement some of the form enhancements we discussed in section 7.4, and you may do that as well. And, of course, everything should be validated as HTML5 and CSS3.
