However, you cannot repeat every single word of shakespeare’s.

RULES:
1. This sonnet can be completely original, and can be about whatever topic you choose to write about. Really.
2. You can write your own Shakespearean sonnet, or, if creativity is not your thing, you can always use parts of Shakespeare’s lines and substitute with your own word or phrases. For example, you may rewrite the first line as: “Shall I compare thee to a glass of wine?” However, you CANNOT repeat every single word of Shakespeare’s.
3. You MUST follow the rhyme pattern of a Shakespearean sonnet.
4. Make sure that your poem makes sense. I would like you to write the sonnet about flying and being a pilot. this should be straight forward just follow the rules and make a sonnet of 14-lines. Here is an examble to clarify
/Sample student sonnet:
Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich
Number one on the menu and my heart,
The only chicken sandwich on my mind.
Your preparation is a form of art,
The best meal anyone will ever find.
Your warm, buttery bun is what I crave
And your two pickles are tasty and sweet.
So good there is nothing left to save,
No other sandwich can even compete.
Golden brown is your savory breading.
My taste buds smile when you are around.
To Chick-fil-A, I will be heading,
Because you, number one, are world renowned.
Your simplicity is what I admire.
A sandwich a day is what I require.

Were you surprised by the identity of the green knight?

This short writing of (Gawain and the Green knight) has several questions for you to consider, so pay close attention to the prompt. First of all, I would like you to discuss your opinion of Lady Bertilak. What do you think about her behavior? How does she compare to your opinion of how women are supposed to behave? What about how you think women of the Middle Ages are supposed to behave? Does she overstep any boundaries? How/why/why not, and be careful to explain your answer and refer to specific passages?
Consider how your perception of her has changed from the first reading assignment versus now, when the poet explains the stakes of the game (the pact between Gawain and Lord Bertilak/his wife) and discuss this in your answer.
Were you surprised by the identity of the Green Knight? Looking back through the text, are you able to find any clues that hint at his identity? If so, what are they?

Do they not work?

Go to the Poetry Foundation site or the Academy of American Poets site and find a poem where you hear the poet deeply utilizing sound. Just take some time to browse through poems on each site to find one you enjoy and where the poet uses sound effectively to you. Close-read the poem you choose and be ready to present it to the class on Monday. As you close-read (as we have in class), also note the poetic devices used and what the resulting effect is to you. Write a 2 page reading response to your chosen poem. What is the poet aiming to get across to the reader? Do you think they were successful? Explain with examples!
How do the poetic devices used (sound, form, imagery, metaphor, etc.) work in the poem? Do they not work? Explain.
