Learning Goal: I’m working on a video editing project and need support to help me learn.Project GuidelinesEdit together a keyframe motion slideshow that tells a story using at least 20 images.SOURCE FILESGather 20 or more still images. These can be from your own collection or from the Internet. Use .jpeg or .tiff images. Import your images into a Premiere Pro project.
SCENE GUIDELINESEdit your 20+ images in a specific order that conveys a story to your audience.
Every still image must contain keyframing movement.Think about how to use the keyframing movement effectively. What are you emphasizing or highlighting? Do you want to establish a picture and then move into a detail? Or do you want to start with a detail and pull back to show the environment? Or perhaps establish a relationship by panning from one person to another? Every move should help tell your story.
Find similar shapes or colors to help create interesting visual transitions from one shot to the next.
Include at least four video transitions.
All visual source material must be stills – that originated as stills – no video source material allowed!
This also means that you may not use frame grabs from a movie, television show, or cartoon.
You are creating your own, original story here, so you may not use frames from a story book, graphic novel, comic book, or video game.
Make sure your timeline is set in a high definition (16×9) aspect ratio. Scale you pictures as necessary to avoid seeing the edges of the pictures..
Avoid letterboxing and black borders unless you are using them as graphic elements.
Add music of your choice to give the images a cohesive sound. Choose a song that matches your story’s tone. Make sure that your sound track has a good beginning and ending. (Does not cut off suddenly or extend beyond the images)
The final project should be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than 2 minutes.
Your scene should work to tell a complete story – with beginning, middle and end.

DELIVERYOutput to a High Definition (16×9) video file.
Include your name in ALL titles. (Video title and Submission title)
This assignment is not just about making a movie out of stills, but about working on your keyframing skills! As stated above, you must utilize keyframing motion on every still!

Write a three-page analysis on the editing of your chosen film based on the editing techniques you have learned in class. Which of Eisenstein’s montage types are used, and how? Is the Kuleshov effect utilized? How has the editor chosen to structure the scenes? Does the film maintain a specific character’s point of view, or does the viewpoint change, and why? Analyze how the editing choices affect the tone of the film. Consider the pacing, transitions, audio design, music, and any other post-production choices used to enhance the story.
This is not a film review, nor should you spend time describing the plot and characters more than is required to analyze the editing.
Please do not reference scenes or moments in the film based on the elapsed time when they take place. Your essay must make sense and be able to stand on its own.
Please do not use phrases such as “amazing editing” unless you are actually describing what is ‘amazing’ about it.
Make sure to use the proper terminology for techniques and montage types that you’ve learned in this course! When you mention a technique you should include a description of how it is used.
Part of the editing process is to understand what is important and to be able to tell a story within time limits. You should apply your editing skills to keep the essay at the appropriate length.
Please deliver your essay double spaced using 12 point Times New Roman font.
The essay must be submitted as either an Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) file or as a Microsoft Word (.DOC or DOCX) document.
Note: Though music, sound design and visual effects are all important aspects of the postproduction process, the editing comes first! Thus your essays need to address the ways particular editing techniques are used and how they specifically help tell the story — once you’ve done that you can bring in music, sound design and visual effects. Also realize that talking about shots, lighting, art direction and other on-set decisions are meaningless for this essay except in the context of ways they provide the raw source material for a style of editing or transitions. Remember that specific shot sizes and types of coverage are determined on set by the Director and the Director of Photography. So any references to specific shot sizes should be within the context of how they are cut together to build sequences and move the story line forward. Likewise, you should have realized by now that the only times you should mention the 180 degree line are those when it may have been broken – and why.
